Put your run out there

Organising a run with friends usually means another group chat, and the noise that comes with it: who’s keen, what time, where again. Or the run goes on social media, which is no help if you don’t use it.

joinmy.run keeps it to the run. Post where, when and how far, once. Pick the friends it suits, like the ones who live nearby, and it’s on their Home. Or share the link in a group chat you’re already in.

That’s all you’re saying: here’s my run, I’m going either way. Whoever’s keen taps I’m in. Nobody sees who hasn’t answered, and nobody gets reminded.

How it works

  1. Post a run: where, when, how far, and how flexible the start is.
  2. Pick who sees it on their Home: everyone in your crew (the friends you run with), or just the groups and people it suits.
  3. Share the link in a group chat you’re already in, if you like.
  4. Friends tap I’m in, Maybe or Suggest a time, and you see who’s coming.

Questions

Do I need an account?

Not to answer a run. Open the link, tap I’m in and type your first name, and the browser remembers you next time. An account is for posting runs of your own, and for seeing friends’ runs on your Home once you’re in each other’s crews. Make one from Sign in with your email, in the browser you answered in, and your answers come with you.

Who sees my answer?

Everyone who can open the run sees who’s in and how many maybes. Only the host sees who the maybes are, who can’t make it, and your note. Nobody sees who hasn’t answered.

Can I suggest another time?

Yes, on any run, even one with a fixed start. Tap Suggest a time, pick a time and add a note if you like (“School drop-off at 7”). You’re a maybe until the host moves the run to your time or keeps it. If the host has chosen to, the first time suggested inside the run’s window moves it straight away.

How do I get back to my answer?

The browser you answered in remembers you, so opening the run from the same chat usually works. Under your answer, Copy your link gives you a link that opens the run as you in any browser. Keep it to yourself: anyone with it can change your answer. If you’re in, the run in your calendar links back too. Lost it all? Answer again, and the host can remove the old one.

Can I put a run in my calendar?

Yes. Once you’re in, Add to calendar on the run puts it in your phone’s calendar. With an account, Your calendar on You adds every run you’re in and keeps up with moves and cancellations.

Can I post my own runs?

Yes. Make an account from Sign in with your email and a six-digit code, and Post a run is on your Home. Add friends from Crew so your runs show up on their Home and theirs on yours, or share a run’s link in a group chat you’re already in.

Who’s in my crew?

The people you run with. Send someone an invite from Crew, or accept theirs, and you’re in each other’s crews. Nobody gets into yours any other way. Remove someone and you’re out of each other’s.

Who can see my run?

You choose two things on each run:

  • who sees it on their Home: your whole crew, some of your crew (groups or people you tick), or nobody;
  • whether its link opens for anyone you send it to.

With the link closed, anyone else who gets it sees only the day, the time and that it’s your run. Your groups are your own labels: nobody else sees their names or who’s in them.

Who sees the exact spot?

Each run has its own switch, Show the exact spot. On, everyone who can open the run sees where you’ll meet. Off, they see a rough area instead, near a park or suburb. Answering never changes it. The preview in WhatsApp never shows the exact spot, and once a run is over, nobody sees it.

Who sees my email?

Nobody you run with. It isn’t shown on Crew, on a run or anywhere else they’d see it. It’s only used to send your sign-in codes, and you can see it on You.
